Right Honouarable Prime Minister Mr. KP Sharma Oli had a telephone conversation with His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt this evening.

The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister while appreciating the pivotal role played by Egypt in mediating the much-awaited ‘Gaza Ceasefire and Hostage Deal’ between Israel and Hamas, renewed the request of the Government of Nepal for the continued goodwill and ‘Good Offices’ of H.E. the President and the government of Egypt for the release of Mr. Bipin Joshi who has been held hostage by Hamas since October 7, 2023. 

The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister also expressed his fervent hope that the efforts put in place by Egypt will be instrumental in securing lasting peace in the region.

The two dignitaries also dealt with matters relating to bilateral relations, cooperation in multilateral forums, importance of exchange of high level visits, holding the bilateral political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries, forging collaboration in educational, scientific and environmental fields, exchanges in climate change, ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ and other issues of mutual interest.

H.E. the President of Egypt expressed his commitment to give due priority to facilitate the release of all the remaining hostages including Bipin Joshi in the second phase of hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas. He also appreciated the initiative of Nepal to host the climate dialogue ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ and expressed his best wishes for its success. Right Hon. Prime Minister invited H.E. the President to participate in the Dialogue. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to take forward the existing bilateral relations even closer for the mutual benefit of both the countries and the peoples.

The telephone call took place in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere.
