Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Mr. K P Sharma Oli participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit in Tianjin, China, today. Delivering a speech at the Summit attended by Heads of the State/Government of SCO members, observer state, dialogue partners, and other guest countries, the Prime Minister shared his thoughts on strengthening multilateralism, promoting regional cooperation and achieving sustainable development. While expressing Nepal’s aspiration for full SCO membership, he underlined future path for rules-based multilateralism that is based on increased connectivity, consultation and cooperation.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister also met with different world leaders today. In his meeting with His Excellency Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in the morning, the two leaders exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in the areas of culture, agriculture and people-to-people relations. They also agreed on working together in international forums on promoting the interests of Land Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
In the afternoon, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Oli held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Dr. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Matters relating to promoting trade, investment, tourism, cultural cooperation, among others, were discussed between the two leaders. They also agreed to work together in different international forums including UN in mutually beneficially areas.
Likewise, in his meeting with His Excellency Mr. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, the two leaders held discussions on enhancing cooperation in the fields of agriculture, tourism, education and people-to-people connection. They also exchanged views on the need to work together at different levels on the pressing issues of climate change while encompassing the special concerns of both mountain and ocean countries.
In the bilateral meeting between the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Mr. K P Sharma Oli and His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, the two leaders discussed matters relating to further strengthening Nepal-Russia relations and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation including in the areas of trade, investment, education and culture, as well as air connectivity.
Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Oli will meet with Mr. Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing tomorrow.
