Press Statement
Attention of the Government of Nepal is drawn to the News Release issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on 03 June 2020 regarding freedom of expression during COVID-19, in which a brief reference has been made about Nepal.
The reference in the release does not reflect the correct facts and reality of press freedom in Nepal. The Constitution of Nepal guarantees full press freedom and also ensures effective judicial remedies against any kind of infringement. The Government of Nepal remains fully committed to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal. Functions of the Government are guided by the Constitution and law of the land. The Government of Nepal and its Permanent Mission in Geneva stand ready to cooperate with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in substantiating the facts and information before they are released.
