Press Release on the State Visit of the President of India to Nepal

At the friendly invitation of the Rt. Hon. President Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of the Republic of India His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee is paying a three-day State Visit to Nepal from 2 to 4 November 2016.

Rt. Hon. President Bidya Devi Bhandari will receive His Excellency President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee at the Tribhuvan International Airport on 2 November 2016. The visiting dignitary will be accorded a ceremonial reception.

His Excellency Shri Mukherjee will meet Rt. Hon. President Bhandari at Shital Niwas. The President of Nepal will host a State Banquet in honour of the President of India.

Rt. Hon. Vice President Mr. Nanda Bahadur Pun and Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” will call on His Excellency Shri Mukherjee. Rt. Hon. Prime Minister will also host a dinner in honour of the visiting dignitary.

His Excellency the President of India will attend a reception to be hosted by the Ambassador of India to Nepal.

On 3rd November, President of India Shri Mukherjee will visit Pashupatinath Temple and perform Puja.

Kathmandu University will confer an honorary degree on His Excellency Shri Mukherjee on the same day. He will attend a civic reception in Kathmandu to be held in his honour. The Indian President will deliver a speech at a seminar of Niti Anusandhan Pratisthan Nepal and India Foundation.

Leaders of political parties will also call on His Excellency Shri Mukherjee during his sojourn.

On 4th November, His Excellency the President of India will visit Janakpur and perform Puja at Janaki Temple and attend a Civic Reception to be hosted in his honour. He will also visit Pokhara.

This will be the first visit by a President of India to Nepal after a gap of 18 years. The then Indian President K. R. Narayanan had visited Nepal in May 1998.

His Excellency the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee will leave Kathmandu for New Delhi on 4 November 2016.
