President the Rt. Hon. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari sent a video message to the Global Vaccine Summit 2020 held on 4 June 2020. The virtual Summit was hosted by the Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in association with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), with the aim of garnering supports for developing vaccines, reducing disease inequality and creating a healthier world.

In her message, the Rt. Hon. President stressed the need for ensuring equitable access of vaccine to all. She appreciated the contribution made by GAVI in the health sector, particularly towards achieving health-related SDGs. The President called upon the international community to come forward with renewed commitments for this noble cause.

Highlighting the achievements made by Nepal through the immunization programme, the Rt. Hon. President expressed solidarity to all global initiatives for shared happiness and wellbeing. She also extended best wishes to the scientists involved in the development of vaccine against COVID 19.

The Summit brought together over 300 participants representing governments, UN agencies, the private sector and philanthropic institutions, among others. At the end of the conference, a ‘Chair’s Summary’ was issued highlighting the pledges and commitments made by GAVI partners.
