First meeting of Nepal-Turkey Political Consultation Mechanism was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu today.

Head of the Europe America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari and Director General for South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Ambassador Mr. Riza Hakan Tekin led their respective delegations to the meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides took stock of various aspects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on further promoting cooperation especially through enhancing economic engagements between the two countries.

The Nepali side appreciated the Turkish cooperation extended to Nepal particularly in the areas of trade, education and labour. The Turkish side congratulated Nepal on the overall political achievements made in recent times and assured continuity of their support to Nepal’s development endeavours. The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interests.

The Turkish delegation consisted of Mr. Ahmet Cem Algumus from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey as well as the Honorary Consul of Turkey in Kathmandu Mr. Prem Prakash Khetan. The Nepali delegation included Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment Mr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal and officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

A Memorandum of Understanding establishing the Bilateral Political Consultation Mechanism was signed between Nepal and Turkey on 23 August 2016.
