Secretary General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) H.E. Mr. M. Shahidul Islam called on Prime Minister the Rt. Honorable Mr. K. P. Sharma Oli at Baluwatar today.
The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister congratulated the Secretary General on the assumption of office as the Secretary General.
Rt. Hon. Prime Minister highlighted the need to have concrete outcomes from the BIMSTEC process for the benefit of the peoples of the region. He stated that the upcoming fourth BIMSTEC Summit must assess its role of past twenty years and chart out the plan of action with time bound targets for the future course of action in order to have positive impacts on the life of our peoples.
The Secretary General briefed about various activities of BIMSTEC and said that the Secretariat was always willing to support the Member States to make BIMSTEC a result oriented and effective organization. He expressed the reediness of the Secretariat to assist the Chair for convening the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit in Kathmandu.
The BIMSTEC Secretary General is on a three day introductory visit to Nepal.
