Press Release on bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of 71st World Health Assembly

Hon. Minister of State for Health and Population, Ms. Padma Kumari Aryal and Hon. Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India, Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda held a bilateral meeting on 22nd of May 2018, on the sidelines of the 71st World Health Assembly. During the meeting, they exchanged views on mutual co-operation in matters related to management and improved access to public health services. The two Ministers discussed about the importance of building health infrastructure and sharing experiences on health sector initiatives such as ‘Aarogya Nepal’ and ‘Ayushmaan Bharat’. Views were also exchanged on the opportunity of learning from study visits, mutual recognition of medical qualifications, affordability of technology and pharmaceutical products as well as cooperation in herbal and traditional medicines.

Similarly, on the same day, Hon. Minister of State for Health and Population Ms. Padma Kumari Aryal and Her Excellency Ms. Cui Li, Vice Minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China, held a bilateral meeting and discussed about medical and public health cooperation between the two countries. Hon. Ms. Aryal appreciated Chinese assistance in building health infrastructure and public health facilities in Nepal including the establishment of the Civil Service Hospital. Development of a Bone Marrow Transplant Excellence Centre in Nepal, opportunity of medical studies in China as well as fostering of people-to-people connections were also figured during the meeting.

His Excellency Mr. Deepak Dhital, Permanent Representative/Ambassador of Nepal, Mr. Mahendra Shrestha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Population, and other members of the delegation were also present during the meetings.

Further, the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Population also held meetings with various funds and programs working in the health services, particularly, The Global Fund and The Nippon Foundation and discussed areas of cooperation for universal access to quality health services.

On 23rd of May, His Excellency Mr. Deepak Dhital, Permanent Representative/Ambassador of Nepal hosted a reception in honor of the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Population Ms. Padma Kumari Aryal and her delegation at the Ambassador’s Residence, where the Hon’ble Minister interacted with Nepali community members and health professionals.

Upon successfully completing her visit to Geneva to attend the 71st World Health Assembly, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health and Population returned to Kathmandu this evening.
