Press Release on Arrival of the United Nations Secretary-General
At the cordial invitation of Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Secretary-General of the United Nations H. E. Mr. Antonio Guterres arrived in Kathmandu early this morning on a four-day official visit to Nepal.
Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the Secretary-General was received by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mr. N.P Saud, Foreign Secretary Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal, and other senior officials of the Government of Nepal. The Secretary-General was also accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Secretary-General is scheduled to meet with the Rt. Hon. President Ramchandra Paudel, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and other high-level dignitaries during the day.
Later in the evening today, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister will host an official banquet in honour of the visiting Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Secretary-General H. E. Mr. Guterres is accompanied by Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Mr. Jean Pierre Lacroix, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations to Nepal Ms. Hanaa Singer-Hamdy and other officials from the UN Headquarters in New York and the United Nations country team in Nepal.
