Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali arrived Geneva today leading a Nepali delegation to the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council being held from 25 February to 22 March 2019.
His Excellency Deepak Dhital, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva received the Foreign Minister at the Geneva airport.
The Foreign Minister interacted with the members of the Non-Resident Nepali Association and Overseas Nepalese Forum as well as Nepali community residing in Switzerland. Present on the occasions were the eminent scholars, professionals, researchers working in the United Nations and various International Organizations based in Geneva and those working in different walks of life.
The Foreign Minister briefly discussed the long-term development vision of Nepal in physical infrastructure development, economic development and social development with the inclusive agenda. Underscoring the importance of the second Nepal Investment Summit to be held in Kathmandu on March 29-30, 2019, the Foreign Minister highlighted a number of measures taken by the Government for creating investment friendly environment in Nepal, including legislative reforms, one-stop service, projects bank and special economic zones, and called upon the Nepali professionals to contribute to Nepal’s development with their knowledge, technological knowhow, and managerial skills.
His Excellency Deepak Dhital hosted a reception dinner in honour of the Hon. Foreign Minister at his residence this evening.
The Foreign Minister will attend the inaugural session of the Council tomorrow morning. He is scheduled to address the Council on the 26th of February.
The Nepali delegation comprises Chairperson of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives Hon. Mr. Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, Head of the UN Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal and Press Expert to the Hon. Minister Mr. Sudhan Gnawali, among others.
