Press Release regarding Hon’ble Minister for Foreign Affairs’ visit to Geneva to participate in the High Level Segment of the thirty-fourth session of the United Nations Human Rights Council

Hon’ble Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister for Foreign Affairs is leaving for Geneva today to participate in the High Level Segment of the thirty-fourth session of the United Nations Human Rights Council to be held on 27 February to 3 March, 2017.

Hon. Minister is leading a Nepali delegation which comprises senior officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva.

Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mahat is scheduled to address the high level segment of the UN Human Rights Council on 28 February 2017.

Honorable Foreign Minister will also solicit support from the member States of the United Nations on Nepal’s candidature to the UN Human Rights Council for the term of 2018-2020, the elections for which are being held in New York in October-November this year.

On the sidelines of the session, Hon’ble Minister will have bilateral meetings with the Foreign Minister of Switzerland, Minister for International Development of Australia,Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, and Federal Minister for Law and Justice of Pakistan, among others.

While in Geneva, Hon’ble Minister will also meet the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organizations (WIPO).
