A new height 8848.86 meters of Mount Sagarmatha/Zhumulangma was jointly announced by Nepal and China from Kathmandu and Beijing at a special ceremony today.
Right Honourable Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal and His Excellency Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China exchanged messages of congratulations on the occasion.
Honourable Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal and His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China read out the messages of congratulations from the respective Presidents announcing the new height of Mount Sagarmatha/ Zhumulangma.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister for Foreign Affairs and H. E. Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China expressed their satisfaction over the existing friendly and cooperative bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the ceremony, Honourable Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Honourable Ms. Padma Kumari Aryal, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, from the Nepali side, and H. E. Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Excellency Mr. Lu Hao, Minister of Natural Resources, from the Chinese side, jointly unveiled the new height of Mount Sagarmatha/Zhumulangma by pressing the crystal balls.
It was during the state visit of the President of China to Nepal in October 2019 that both the Governments of Nepal and China had agreed on the joint announcement of the height of Mount Sagarmatha/Zhumulangma.
