Press Release issued by the Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok regarding the official visit of Rt. Hon. President of Nepal to the Kingdom of Thailand

Rt. Hon. President Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari reached Bangkok this afternoon. Upon her arrival at the Suvarnabhoomi Airport in Bangkok, the Rt. Hon. President was warmly welcomed by the Representative of His Majesty the King of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Charunthada Karnasuta, Privy Councillor; Representative of the Royal Thai Government, H.E. Mr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society; and the Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Deputy Director General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs. H. E. Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari, Ambassador of Nepal, and other diplomats of the Embassy were also present at the airport to welcome the Rt. Hon. President.

In the afternoon, the Rt. Hon. President of Nepal visited the Grand Palace, and paid respect to His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej by laying floral wreath. She also signed the Condolence Book kept in the Grand Palace. In her condolence message, the Rt. Hon. President expressed sorrow at the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was a popular Thai monarch and a strong supporter and well-wisher of Nepal, and expressed, on behalf of the Government and the people of Nepal and on her own, heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and other members of Thai Royal family, Royal Thai Government and the friendly Thai people.

Upon her arrival at the Grand Palace, the Rt. Hon. President was received by the Chief of Protocol and His Majesty the King’s Deputy Principle Private Secretary.

The Rt. Hon. President attended a Reception hosted in her honour by H. E. Ambassador Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari and Mrs. Adhikari at the Embassy. A large number of Nepalese people in Thailand attended the reception. The President also addressed the Nepalese community during the Reception.

During all the programmes, the Rt. Hon. President was accompanied by Hon. Mr. Keshav Kumar Budhathoki, accompanying Minister; Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai, Foreign Affairs Expert for the Rt. Hon. President; Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi; Mr. Bhupendra Prasad Paudel, Secretary, the Office of the President and other senior officials of the Government of Nepal.

The Rt. Hon. President is scheduled to leave Bangkok for Colombo tomorrow, 13 May 2017.
