Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs

 

Hon. N.P. Saud assumed the office of the Foreign Minister of Nepal on 16th April 2023. He previously served as Minister for Irrigation (2014-2016) and State Minister for Education and Sports (2001-2002).

Mr. Saud is currently a Member of Parliament from Kanchanpur-2 constituency of Sudurpaschim Province. Currently, he is a member of the Central Executive Committee and the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress Party.

Mr. Saud was previously elected as Member of Parliament in 1999 from Kanchanpur-1 and Member of the Constituent Assembly in 2013 from Kanchanpur-2. While in Parliament, he successfully fulfilled his responsibilities as member of the Finance Committee, Parliamentary Hearing Committee and Public Accounts Committee.

Hon. Foreign Minister started his political career in the 1980s, playing an active role in student movement as well as Satyagraha, while serving in various positions within the Nepal Student Union (NSU), an important wing of the Nepali Congress Party. He was active in the democratic movement of 1990 and his role in student politics culminated in his election as President of the Central Committee of Nepal Student Union (1991-1996). Mr. Saud was also at the forefront of the most recent People’s Movement of 2006. In the course of his long political career, he has been imprisoned several times for his political beliefs and participation in movements for democracy.

Mr. Saud has a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities & Social Sciences from Tribhuvan University Kathmandu.

Born in Dadeldhura District of Sudurpaschim Province, Mr. Saud is married to Jyotshna Adhikari Saud and has two children Neeharika and Neehar. He balances politics with his interests in reading books, sports, music, painting, community service, and traveling.
