Press Release on the Meeting of the Presidents of Nepal and India

The Rt. Hon’ble President Ms. Bidya Devi Bhandari had a meeting with His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India, at Sheetal Niwas today. During the meeting, the two Presidents exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-India relations. The two Presidents shared that Nepal-India relations are historical and stand on the solid foundation of common culture, civilizational bonds and close linkages at people’s level. They also shared that the exchange of high level visits, intensified in recent times, as well as increased engagements between the two countries at the highest level of leadership would contribute to nurture the friendly relations further.

The President of India congratulated the President of Nepal, Nepali people and the Constituent Assembly for the launching of the Constitution last year and its subsequent amendment.

The Rt. Hon’ble Vice President Mr. Nanda Bahadur Pun paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of India this evening. During the meeting, The Rt. Hon’ble Vice President underscored the need of enhanced cooperation between the two countries in the areas of hydropower, connectivity and waterways.

Likewise, The Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of India this evening. During the meeting, The Rt. Hon’ble President extended thanks to His Excellency the President of India and the Government and people of India for their goodwill and support in Nepal’s peace process as well as for supporting Nepal’s development efforts.

The. Rt. Hon’ble President is hosting a State Banquet in honour of His Excellency the President of India this evening.

At the invitation of The Rt. Hon’ble President Ms. Bhandari, His Excellency Shri Mukherjee arrived in Kathmandu this morning on a three day State Visit to Nepal. The Rt. Hon’ble President received the visiting Dignitary at the Tribhuvan International Airport, where he also inspected the Guard of Houour.
