Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Mr. K P Sharma Oli held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi this afternoon.

The Prime Minister of Nepal recalled his earlier conversation with Prime Minister Modi on 10 April 2020.

The Prime Minister of Nepal extended, on behalf of the Government and people of Nepal and on his own behalf, hearty congratulations on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of India to Prime Minister Modi and through him to the Government and people of India. He also expressed best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of India.

Prime Minister Oli appreciated Prime Minister Modi’s renewed priority to neighborhood as spelt out in today’s Independence Day address. The Prime Minister of Nepal looked forward to meaningful bilateral cooperation.

The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on the latest efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and agreed to work together in this area. The Prime Minister of Nepal highlighted the efforts of the Government of Nepal against the pandemic and protect the life of the people. While underlining the need for early development of anti-COVID vaccine, the Prime Minister of Nepal expressed hope that scientists around the world, including in India, would be able to develop it that will contribute to control and prevent the disease from spreading further.

Prime Minister Oli also congratulated Prime Minister Modi on India’s election to a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and expressed best wishes for the successful discharge of this important responsibility.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to continue discussions on bilateral matters in the future.
