Nepal and the Republic of Slovenia established diplomatic relations on 2 December 1997. The bilateral relations between the two countries are based on friendship, mutual respect and understanding. Ambassador of Nepal to Austria is concurrently accredited to Slovenia. Similarly the Ambassador of Slovenia to India is accredited to Nepal. Slovenia opened its Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu in 2018. Nepali Honorary Consulate is based in Ljubljana.
As mountainous countries, Nepal and Slovenia are both endowed with the relevant opportunities and challenges. Both countries have been working together in various international forums including in the UN.
In the aftermath of devastating earthquake of 25 April 2015, the Slovenian Government supported Nepal through UNICEF to help the quake affected children in Nepal.
Trade/Investment
The volume of trade between Nepal and Slovenia is moderate. Some of the commodities imported by Nepal from Slovenia are machinery appliances, toys, plastics, rubber oil seeds and oleaginous fruits etc. Nepal exports tobacco, malt extracts, articles of leather, clothing accessories, headgear and thereof, musical instruments, works of arts and antiques.

As of July 2020, there has been Slovenian investment in two industries in Nepal with a total of Rs. 34.19 million investment generating 45 employment opportunities.
