Nepal and the Holy See established diplomatic relations on 10 September 1983. The Embassy of Nepal in Germany is concurrently accredited to the Holy See and the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal. Nepal and the Holy See enjoy cordial and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Both Nepal and the Holy See have cultural and religious richness that contributes to strengthen the relations between the two countries and also promote peace, prosperity and harmony among the people of the world. Apart from occasional presentation of credentials by the Ambassador and the Apostolic Nuncio, Nepal and the Holy See have very little interaction.
In May 2015 the Apostolic Nuncio/Ambassador Mr. Salvotoro Pennacchio visited Nepal then to express solidarity to Nepal on the loss of life due to the earthquake. Archbishop Mr. Giambattista Diquatro, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Nepal visited Nepal in 2018 and 2019 and called on various officials including Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
