Nepal – Czech Republic Relations


Bilateral Relations
Nepal established diplomatic relations with the Czech Republic on the 2nd of March 1994. The Ambassador of Nepal to Germany is concurrently accredited to the Czech Republic and the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to India is concurrently accredited to Nepal. The Czech Republic has appointed its Honorary Consul in Nepal.

 

Earthquake April 2015
The Government of the Czech Republic provided Nepal CZK 20 million (USD $791,378) aid and sent to the area disaster response team including 36 medicals and 13 firefighters. Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek expressed his deepest condolences to the families and friends of victims. As many as 20 stranded nationals of Czech Republic in Nepal were evacuated by India on 28 April.

 

Visits
The Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Hynek Kmonicek visited Nepal from 27 to 28 June 2001. A Nepalese delegation led by Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority Mr Surya Nath Upadhyaya attended the 10th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) held on 7-11 October 2001 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic H.E. Mr. Jan Mladek visited Nepal in January 2015 leading an official and business delegation. The Czech delegation held meetings with Minister for Finance and different government agencies and officials.

 

Scholarships
Former Czechoslovakia had provided some scholarships to Nepalese students especially in the fields of engineering, medicine and other technical subjects. Now, the Czech Republic, a successor state of former Czechoslovakia has been offering some scholarships to Nepalese students every year for higher studies in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Economics and Czech language.

 

Bilateral Agreements
Nepal and the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic had signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Public Health and Medical Sciences on 1 March 1979 and on Trade and Payment on 12 December 1982.

An agreement on Cooperation between the Government of Nepal and Czech Republic was signed on 29 January 2015 at the Ministry of Finance. The agreement is expected to further contribute the economic cooperation between Nepal and the Czech Republic. Both the countries have agreed to encourage economic cooperation and take initiatives which will contribute to the development of industrial cooperation and investment, including for the cooperation between private sector.

 

Business Delegations
A Nepalese trade delegation visited the Czech Republic in 1988 and discussed with the officials of the Czech Chambers of Commerce and Industry. A 15-member Czech trade mission headed by Mr. Petr Kulovany, Director of Asia Department of Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic visited Nepal in March 1999. During the visit, they held interactions with the Nepalese businessmen at Nepal Chamber of Commerce with an objective of promoting trade between the two countries.

 

Tourism
Czech people are known as mountain lovers and they are avid pursuers of highland trekking as well as mountaineering. Approximately 3000 to 4000 Czech tourists visit Nepal every year.

  • Headgear and parts thereof
