Press Release: Hon. DPM and FM leaving for New York

Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Kamal Thapa is leaving for  New York today to participate in the High-level Signature Ceremony of the Paris Agreement being convened by Secretary- General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-moon on 22 April 2016 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The Paris Agreement was adopted in Paris, France, on 12 December 2015 by the 21st Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Thapa will sign the Agreement on behalf of the Government of Nepal and will also make national statement on the occasion.

Prior to this, Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will participate in the High- level Thematic Debate on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on 21 April 2016 in New York and will address the event as the Leader of the Nepali delegation. Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will also hold bilateral meetings with high-level UN Officials including the President of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) H.E. Mr. Mogens Lykketoft in New York.

Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will participate in the Talk Programme on Consolidation of Peace, Stability and Democracy in Nepal and Nepal-US Partnership for Enhanced Prosperity hosted by the United States Institute of Peace in Washington D.C. on 25 April 2016.

Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will also hold bilateral meetings with Rt. Honourable Hugo Swire, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 27 April 2016 and Rt. Honourable Desmond Swayne, Minister of State for International Development on 28 April 2016 in London.

Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will return to Kathmandu on 29 April 2016.
