Press Release on Message of Condolence from Rt. Hon. Prime Minister

1. Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. K. P. Sharma Oli sent a message of condolence to H. E. Mr. Sherif Ismail, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, on the demise of H.E. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The message reads as follows:

“It was with deep sorrow that I have learned about the demise of H.E. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations. On behalf of the Government and people of Nepal, and on my own, I would like to offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt as well as the Boutros-Ghali family.

The late H.E. Boutros Boutros-Ghali played an immensely important role in contributing towards shaping the responses of the UN to the issues of international peace, security, development and democracy. His landmark report “An Agenda for Peace” also constitutes a significant contribution to the international peace and security. He will be remembered for his endeavours to put peace, development and democracy as important agendas for the international community.

The loss of such an eminent leader and scholar is indeed a great loss to Egypt and the entire international community. ”

 

2. Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. K. P. Sharma Oli also sent a message of condolence to H. E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United    Nations, on the demise of H.E. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The message reads as follows:

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of H. E. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former Secretary-General of the United Nations. On behalf of the Government and people of Nepal, and on my own, I would like to offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to you and the United Nations community.

Under his leadership as the Secretary-General of the UN, the UN made huge strides in various fields during challenging circumstances in the World. His contribution towards shaping the responses of the UN to the issues of international peace, security, development and democracy has been significant.

His comprehensive report “An Agenda for Peace” constitutes a significant contribution to the international peace and security. The demise of Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali has indeed been a great loss to the international community. ”
