United Nations Under-Secretary-General His Excellency Mr. Jeffrey Feltman paid a courtesy call on Right Hon’ble President Ms. Bidya Devi Bhandari today. H.E. Mr. Feltman conveyed the greetings and best wishes of United Nations Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon. He also assured of the support of the United Nations for the full implementation of the constitution. The Rt. Hon’ble President requested him to convey her sincere thanks to the Secretary-General for his best wishes. Rt. Hon’ble President also highlighted the important features of the constitution particularly those contributing to the greater participation and empowerment of women in the country. She expressed her appreciation to the role of the UN in the peace process as well as development in Nepal.

Earlier Under-Secretary-General Mr. Feltman paid a courtesy call on Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli at his residence in Baluwatar. On the occasion, Mr. Feltman conveyed the best wishes as well as the assurance of support expressed by the UN Secretary-General. On the occasion Nepal-UN partnership over the past six decades was discussed. Mr. Feltman also inquired about the Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister’s views on the ongoing dialogues and efforts being made by the Government as well as the major political parties with regard to the concerns expressed by the agitating Madhesi parties about some constitutional provisions. He also paid a courtesy call on Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar at Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport today.

In the morning, Under-Secretary-General Mr. Feltman met with Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singha Durbar. During the meeting he expressed the keen interest of the UN to support the implementation of the constitution. In view of the huge agenda of development and reconstruction before the country in the aftermath of the devastation caused by the earthquakes H.E. Mr. Feltman also assured of the United Nations’ continued cooperation to Nepal. The Foreign Secretary also hosted a luncheon today in honour of the Under-Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Feltman.
