Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi who is on a visit of New York, met with senior UN Officials, and delivered Nepal’s statement on Peacekeeping today.
In his meeting with Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, Mr. Bairagi exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-United Nations relations. Similarly, he held a meeting with Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Mr. Liu Zhenmin and discussed matters of common interest.
The Foreign Secretary Mr. Bairagi delivered Nepal’s statement at the Fourth Committee of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, on ‘Comprehensive Review of the Whole Question of Peacekeeping Operations in all its Aspects’. In his statement Mr. Bairagi highlighted Nepal’s contributions to global peace and security, while stressing the need for clarity of mandates, adequate resources, and safety and Security of peacekeepers. He reiterated Nepal’s full support in strengthening operationalized capabilities of UN Peace operations.
