The 3rd Meeting of the Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi and Ambassador of India to Nepal H. E. Mr. Manjeev Singh Puri, was held in Kathmandu today.

The meeting made comprehensive review of the progress made in economic and development cooperation projects between Nepal and India, in particular since the 2nd meeting held on 30 January 2017. The two sides covered specific issues relating to cross border rail projects, Integrated Check Posts, cross-border transmission lines, Arun III and Upper Karnali Hydropower projects, Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, Postal roads, Lines of Credit projects and reconstruction projects, among others.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to the early completion of all bilateral economic and development cooperation projects by providing required facilities and addressing the difficulties that may surface in the phase of implementation.

The Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was set up as agreed during the State Visit to India by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in September 2016 in order to take measures to ensure that all ongoing bilateral economic and development projects are implemented within defined timeline.

The 4th Meeting of the Oversight Mechanism will be held in Kathmandu in mid-June 2017.
